You completely nailed this topic! I think that the global warming thing is a pile of crap and am willing to say so, it is a stupid scare tactic and I do not take kindly to that. I believe in being responsible, it is good for the environment and the economy, but some of these people take it beyond too far when they expect me to make the same sacrifices they have I am not willing to give them the time of day. Iowa is still pushing the ethanol thing like crazy, it has been good for our economy which took a huge hit from the flooding so I really can't blame them too much. Biofuels and such should definitely be researched but we need solutions that are economically viable and don't need huge gov't subsidies and cost more than people can afford. And sending you homework is beyond arrogant!

(NukeDad) Judging by the number of comments I'm going to say that not many people agree with me, but; oh well. I could have spent more time explaining that I don't dump motor oil down the drain, or drive a car with a broken muffler, but all that seems like a given to me. My point was that they try and make you feel guilty even if you're already leading a reasonably "green" life.

This is great! My step-daughter has suddenly become eco-aware and is swallowing the school district drivel hook, line and sinker. Excellent points about population, percentages and amounts of pollution produced by ours versus other countries. Thank you!

(NukeDad) Glad to be of service; you can pay me in carbon credits. ;)

Wow, nice rant. Refreshing post about Earth Day when the other ones I saw were all, well, kumbaya-ish. (I just made up a word.)

And for the record? Although I act like I enjoy doing parent-kid assignments together for my boys' sakes (we don't get many of those anymore, with an 8th grader and a Junior!), I'd rather help them with homework because they need help, not because the teacher assigns it as part of the homework.

(NukeDad) I agree with you; I like being asked for help (so long as I know the answers!) by the kids, but the audacity and condescension of the educators in saying; "Go home and do this with your parents because they obviously don't get it" just pissed me off.

Vote NukeDad!!!!!! I'll head up your IL headquarters!
Righteous Rant and I loved it. I want to give you a standing ovation. Alas, my laptop is in my way.

(NukeDad) You're getting a laptop? I'm jealous. I've been dropping subtle hints for moths, but it's not doing any good.

I think my neighborhood will need to take over Texas after this last heat wave...

(NukeDad) That's true; forgot about all of the CO2 from AC units contributing to that giant footprint.

Great post. I am an outdoorsman and of course I want to take care of the planet, but I think that everyone has gone mad with the whole thing. If a teacher sends home something like that for my son I may just send a kiss my ass note right back.

I work indirectly with some ethanol businesses. That market has crashed and probably will never come back. Those businesses are desperately looking for something else to do in order to stay afloat. Somebody should have thought that out better.

(NukeDad) The unintended consequences actually made it worse than if they had never come up with it in the first place. There is some research on turning garbage into fuel-that would be a huge win-win.
