Obvious
I love it when TiVo gets too lazy to do it’s job. The summary for tonight’s episode of 24? Jack and the FBI create a plan to prevent more terror attacks; events take a surprising turn. Really? Could you be a little more vague? A surprising turn? Like what? Jack quits in mid-pistol whip and returns to school to get his Masters in Sociology? Maybe FBI Special Agent Larry Moss is going to give in to temptation and help Jack torture somebody. Like the Subway guy for putting too much mayo on his Cold Cut Combo. At least give us a little detail; like Agent Walker questions Jacks commitment, or something along those lines. If I wanted obvious I’d look up Deal or No Deal; not a whole lot to say about that.
It’s not like it’s The Cleavage Exploiter. Wait. I forgot; they changed the name to The Ghost Whisperer; anyway, that show could give 2 pages of description and still leave you unsure of what you might see. Ever seen the description for any movie on IFC? Rest assured that you’ll be so frustrated by the teaser that you’ll give up and watch The Breakfast Club for the 12,000th time instead. News programs? Forget it. THAT, I can understand, but still; with today’s technology you’d think that they could insert something pertaining to the news of the day. For instance, the earthquake in Italy happened last night/early this morning; would it kill them to put a 2 word blurb on NBC’s summary of tonights broadcast? Italian Earthquake. There. Done. Now somebody who doesn’t pay attention to the news all day will be able to discern if they want to partake of it or not. It’s not too much to ask, is it?

And sometimes they just sort of miss the whole point; all I ever get from MS Media Center is: “Stephen Colbert and guests discuss current issues.” Really? Hmmm.
(NukeDad) I know; doesn’t it drive you nuts? They book a month in advance, can’t someone from there call Direct TV and TV Guide?

And what about the Bravo teasers that make it look like a life endangering situation took place, when in reality someone clipped a hangnail?
(NukeDad) That’s why you’ve got to stick with Tru TV. At least there you know that the bruises and blood are real.

I really need to watch more TV… all of that sounds fascinating. I do agree with you on the news though. It’s more entertainment drivel than actual useful information… where’s John Tesh when you need him?
(NukeDad) If you’re able to stay away from TV, then you’re probably better off than the rest of us, Tara. I think John Tesh is still out trying to beat all of Yanni’s New Age concert gross records. Is he still married to Buck Rogers’ old girlfriend?

Wow, somebody has had a falling out with in-house technology, huh? I hope you kiss and make up soon; I hear “The Facts of Life” is on at some point tonight.
(NukeDad) Facts of Life? Is that a Discovery channel show about the mating habits of the African Wildebeest? (It is 2 e’s, I checked)

I have went from Tivo to my cable providers DVR in order to have an HD DVR. That stupid thing always has generic descriptions. It doesn’t even know what shows are on sometimes. It is stupid.
(NukeDad) So; HD DVD as in: Habitually Defective DVD?

I’m not even sure if I can remember how to program my VCR, which has a DVD player combined with it, cuz I’m high tech like that! The time is over an hour off, about 70 minutes off give or take, not quite sure if that is my fault or not, well 60 of those minutes are because I am too lazy to get it to do daylight savings time. I should go into industry instead of academia so I can afford to hire a kid to figure out and do this tech stuff for me!
(NukeDad) See, this is why you should have played more video games as a child.

Here I thought vague descriptions were limited to SpongeBob episodes: “SpongeBob and his pals cavort under the sea.”
Come to think of it, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen them cavort. Frolic, perhaps. I think I even witnessed them romp once.
(NukeDad) I think what you witnessed was Tomfoolery; or it could have been shenanigans.

I don’t have the patience to plan out my tv viewing that far ahead. I just sit down and whatever is on is what I watch.
Though it is entertaining to watch Jennifer Love Hewitt….

In TiVo’s defense, I found out during a call to TiVo’s customer service that they get their show descriptions from a third-party service called Tribune. So if Tribune doesn’t have episode-specific content, then neither will TiVo.
But yeah, if frustrates me too when my TiVo says nothing more for The Office than something like, “The antics of a paper company in Scranton, PA.” Gee, thanks. At least it’s antics and not hijinks. That would be craaaazy…
(NukeDad) You’re right; I don’t know if I could handle any hijinks. Shennanigans? Maybe; hijinks, never.

I actually was a gamer as a child, from a very young age, think Daddy started me on Ernie’s Big Splash when I was 3 and Captain Comic when I was 4. I think when the next generation is born the tech savvy torch gets passed down, I’ll just have to have Niecey do it for me, the torch is in her hands now
.
(NukeDad) Let’s hope she doesn’t burn the house down.
