Redeployment Is Not An Option

That Was Quick…

fireworksToday marks the 1 year anniversary of Nuclear Family Warhead.  Please save your applause until the end.  A year ago, I thought that starting a blog (called it a website back then) with my neighbor about stay at home Dads would make us millionaires!  Who wouldn’t want to read about the trials and tribulations of 2 stay at home Dads trying to stay one step ahead of the kids?  Turns out, almost everybody.  We would give advice, post funny anecdotes, make a ton of money from our Google ads (cough, cough) and t-shirt sales, and generally, just have a good time.  Here; check out the first post to see what I mean.  At least we posted some funny stories and had a good time.

Shortly after start-up, my partner in crime; Dr. Isaid No had to return to the real world and went back to school.  I soldiered on in spite of my fear.  I had tons of support from Mr. Lady and Busy Dad who answered every idiotic, mundane question I could throw at them.  I met a ton of people thru Cre8Buzz (now defunct) like; Momo Fali, Tom, Jeremy, JoeprahAmy, Tara, Kim and lots of others.  I found my greatest support and encouragement came from Melisa (with 1 l) at Suburban Scrawl.  She’d read every one of my posts and leave a comment even if the post was terrible.  There would be times when the only comments I got would be from Melisa, and that’s what encouraged me to keep going.

Along the way I met lots of other characters, including a man who writes one of the funniest (and heart-wrenching) blogs around; Xbox4nappyrash.  His chronicle of the struggles he and his wife have gone through to conceive a child will keep you in tears; from laughter, and from sadness.  Magneto Bold Too will keep you in stitches with her “Down Under” perspective; there are a ton of great Aussie bloggers out there.  After a few months I started seeing a lot of hits from Iowa.  I did a post that inadvertently called out this person, and a lady named Karen contacted me.  She told me that she was a graduate student in Microbiology, and I suggested that that would make for a great blog.  Soon thereafter My Microscopic Life was born.  A Mom of 5 started dropping comments and I quickly became hooked on WeaselMomma over at World Of Weasels. If you need a good laugh and proper perspective, then go visit WeaselMomma, you won’t regret it.  Sadly, I also lost a blog friend this year.  Ron at Ducks Mahal would leave some of  the quirkiest comments.  He passed away last week.  Rest in Peace, Ron.

It’s been a great year.  I’ve been challenged to a football smackdown by Momo Fali, ran for president, purchased the largest potato on record, starred in my own movie, built a war machine, became a redneck, hosted a murderer, became a veterinarian, took on corporate America, met Angus Young Jr., learned how to pole dance, penned a scathing fashion critique, lobbyed for Dad of the year, helped play Santa, ruined a perfectly good springboard, became a mathematician and posted the grossest picture ever.  Boy, am I tired.  Can’t wait to see what the next year brings.

**UPDATE** Apparently there is some debate on the viability of Ron at Ducks Mahal and his alleged death.  If he isn’t dead, and this was just a hoax, he soon will be when I track him down.

No way it’s only been a year.

Ron’s not dead, fool. His blog is. He’s crafty like that.

Happy one year. I, for one, have as much a crush on you as I did that first day.

(NukeDad) Why, Thank you, Sir Lady. Did you see that? I just knighted you. If Ron isn’t dead, he’s going to be.

May I be the first to congratulate you on your paper anniversary (which I guess is ironic since it’s your blog we’re celebrating). I extend a warm, blooming mushroom cloud of family bliss in your direction.

(NukeDad) Ha, ha! Thanks Celluloid Pop, maybe we should change it to the pixel anniversary?

Okay, maybe not the first. That’s what I get for warming up my lunch before I hit Submit.

(NukeDad) Still in the top 3, no worries.

I jumped in mid-stream so I missed quite a bit. Seems like only yesterday we were buzzing around the anthill.

And I don’t think you mentioned Big Word Wednesday at all, which is one of the things that really got me hooked here. Let’s bring back BWW and edify the linguistic perspicacity of the masses.

Great job – keep ‘em coming!

(NukeDad) I know, I know…I keep meaning to, but I don’t. It’ll definitely be back; maybe not this week, but it’ll be back, I promise.

Oh, sorry. Glad you said something. I didn’t mean to jump the gun on the applause. I just get so excited when someone’s having a party, because it usually means open bar. Congrats on the year! I hope that it is the first of many, for my sake, because I love reading your posts. This is great stuff and if you printed t-shirts and coffee mugs and beer bras (cozzies for bottles) I would order the whole set! That is if I ever get an income again. Do you take food stamps?

(NukeDad) Food Stamps? If you want to be my running mate in ’12, you’d better get with the program! Maybe we can work out some sub-prime t-shirt financing for you.

It actually feels like you’ve been around a LOT more than a year I must say.

    In a consistent way.

(NukeDad) Thanks, Xbox. Glad to hear that you’ve got some help on the way.

Aww, you are so SWEET! I feel like I should get you an anniversary gift now. How about another one of my delicious imaginary cakes? You name the flavor, the filling, the frosting, and what you want me to write on the top, and it’ll be there by tomorrow afternoon.

I was going to say at first that we should get EACH OTHER gifts, because I’m selfish like that. But what you wrote about me and your bloggy friendship are plenty for me. I’m going to bookmark this post for the occasions when I am having a crappy day; I’ll come back often. LOL

Happy Blogoversary, my friend! Have a Jack and Coke for me!

    xoxo

(NukeDad) You had me going there for a second, I had to dash out and look real quick to make sure I hadn’t spelled your name with 2 ‘s’s. Whew! I’ll take a yellow cake with chocolate pixel icing. You’re getting a Wal-Mart triple chocolate cake; it’s the only cake I know how to make. ;)

For the record, I have NEVER read a terrible post here. Ever. And that’s no lie.

(NukeDad) Thanks, but even I wouldn’t say that…surf some more…let’s see if we agree. ;(

Congrats on the anniversary. Hope you remember you and NukeMom’s anniversary, her birthday, etc as well. Might look bad…

(NukeDad) You’re supposed to remember that stuff? Maybe I should write it down somewhere. ;)

Football season is right around the corner. You know what they say about paybacks.

Congratulations on one year! I’m glad you started blogging and I’m equally glad you didn’t strike it rich. You’d forget about all of us little people.

(NukeDad) Payback? Maybe. We’ll have to bet on it. Thanks for supporting me in my pauper-dom.

What? I go and have a brain hiccup and a little holiday at the place where they keep the GOOD drugs and Ron goes and freaking dies and steals my damn thunder?

If he is not, we can go and kill him together. we can be like a posse. And Mr Lady can be our toothless mascot.

(NukeDad) Glad to hear you are doing better. For Ron: I’ll bring the chainsaw, you bring your dancing knife and we’ll have “Gums” bring the attitude.

Really, you’ve been doing this for a year? Don’t you have a life? Who’s taking care of the kids? Did you get dinner ready yet?

You keep this up and nothing is going to get done at the house.

Seriously, congrats on the year of writing. Not an easy feat. Not like I know…

(NukeDad) Blogging is why God created TV dinners. And chicken nuggets. Dinner is always ready; in 90 seconds, or so. ;)

    Anyway, kudos – u rock!

(NukeDad) Thanks, Eric! Take advantage of your freedom while you can, that little baby that’s about to show up is going to take some of it! You’ll love it though.
