The Bibliophile
Somebody help me. My brain hurts. I’ve been reading at an outrageous pace. In the last 7 days I’ve read 5 books. 9 in the last 14 days. Cover to cover, no pictures. No kiddin’. I’ve been reading them almost as fast as Stephen King writes them (Or Coben, or Baldacci, or Patterson, or Grisham, or Suess). I found this place up the road by city hall that will, get this; lend you books to read at no cost so long as you agree to bring them back! It’s like having a friend with the largest book collection you’ve ever seen and they don’t mind sharing!
I think it’s called a “Library”. NukeBoy1 turned me on to it. I remember something similar in grade school, only, we went there to watch movies on those great big projectors that would feed the giant reel of film through a 6 mile serpentine loop of wheels and pulleys. Unless, of course, Lenny was the projectionist, then you just got to see the first 12 seconds before the sound trailed all the way down the scale from alto to baritone and the image froze and then began melting like some scene out of Barbarella in a cheap theater. I’m not sure where the impulse came from; it’s kind of like the whole coffee compulsion I went through awhile ago. Maybe I’ve finally hit man-o-pause; that time in a man’s life when he has to pause to find out what is important to him and then change his mind completely in less than a week. I don’t know, whatever it is, it’s keeping Tylenol’s stock price up. I’m still hitting the blogs too, just not as often as I was before. I’m still looking for the “balance” that I need to be able to take in all of this information without having my cerebrum turn to jelly. I’ll be back on my commenting schedule soon as well, only now, I think I’ll refer to them as “reviews”.

Man!
My wife can do that too! Read, read and read…
She went to the oddest place the other day…
this “library” you mentioned…
I remembered this place but it was like I had only been there in a dream..lol
I’d rather write than read, but honestly doesn’t reading make you a better writer?
Maybe I am going about this the wrong way!
Moving on, I hope to turn my son onto this place you referenced… but lets hope he has a equal liking to sports and video games -lets hope I don’t screw up the child!
Oh okay, now my brain hurts…
(NukeDad) You’ll do fine, Eric; just make sure you make him hit the books before the video games.

I really need to start chatting up the same friend here in my town. I have so many books I could open my own library. Costing me tons of money.
(NukeDad) That’s kind of what drove me to this place called “Library”; I was getting too in debt to Mr. Doubleday.

As a LA teacher, I hope you put some (or all) fiction in your reading mix. It’s a great escape and keeps your brain from hurting too badly!
(NukeDad) It’s been ALL fiction. Growing up I had the best of both worlds: Dad only read non-ficiton, and Mom read almost all fiction.

Damn, you let the cat out of the bag. Now everyone is going to want to show up to this “library” place. Great, ruin it for the rest of us….geez
(NukeDad) Sorry, Mike; the same thing happened when I found out about that free place for the kids to play called a “Park”. Now everybody’s doing it.

Adropause. It’s called andropause for men.
(NukeDad) Like the Michael Crichton book? “The Adropause Strain”?
Who knows what they call it, I call it maddening.

Books… books… what are these “books” of which you speak? What’s their URL? I mean, if it can be read, it must be on the internet. Right?
(NukeDad) Sadly, Tom, you’re right; too many people don’t even know what they are anymore. I guess I’m just more of an old-schooler. Although, my neighbor does have a Kindle, and it is ultra-cool.

Now if they would just start working in the netflix format!!!!! That would be cool.
(NukeDad) But you’d miss half the story that way! I’ve yet to see a movie that was better than the book.

Dufus! I mean the mail it back and forth, postage pre-paid format! I love a good movie but the book is always way better. Although they did a surprisingly good job with The Hunt For Red October.
(NukeDad) Dufus? I knew what you were talking about, I just wanted to make sure you were coming back to read my replies!
(How’s that for an excuse?) I agree with you on Red October, it was very well done.

Hehe, my mother has her library card memorized and learned how to use the computer/internet because Dad and the rest of us got tired of checking the library system sites for her (she has interlibrary loans in the system pretty much 24/7/365.25). I have spent much time in the libraries. Niecey is a big fan of the libraries now as well (my family lives on the boarder of two towns and so are close to two libraries, and being suburbia there are several more within driving distance).
(NukeDad) It’s great, but I need to tone it down a little; I’m like a college professor on his office hours or something.
