Can You Believe These Clowns?
I know, I know; you’re expecting one of my political rants, right? Too bad, this is all about the Circus. Since we are now Upper Middle Class Rednecks, we get sporadic access to the luxury box thru NukeMoms employment with a large multi-national company. But you knew that already, didn’t you? Maybe I should quit bragging about it and just show you some pictures. It was dark, and I’m no Ansel Adams, and since he took outdoor pictures and we were inside, this analogy is about as good as buying a vowel on Deal or No Deal. Suffice it to say that it was much better than I expected. It was a new show called “Zing, Zang, Zoom” that leaned more towards magic and acrobatics than it did to clown cars and motorcycles on cables overhead. Here’s a picture of probably the NukeKids favorite part: the Opposing Swings of Death. That’s what I call them, I’m not sure what the Barnum & Bailey people called it, but it was cool. The acrobats all looked like Ivy-League gymnastics team members who didn’t make the Olympic team. They were unbelievable.

These guys (and gals) were flying higher than a 2nd grader with a new box of markers. They made it look so easy too. Falling out of the sky from 3 stories after being launched off of the swing. That’s why they call them gymnasts, I guess. If I tried it I’d be called artillery. Or catapult fodder.

It was twice as good as last years show. Don’t get me wrong; they still had standard Circus fare like the elephants, tigers, dogs thru hoops, etc., but the magic they were doing was like something you’d see in Vegas. Putting a clown in a glass cage suspended in the air, raising a curtain for 2 seconds and when it comes down there’s a white tiger in the cage. Putting clowns in boxes and shoving flaming sleds full of swords through the box, and when the box opens the clown isn’t a shish-k-bob; he’s gone! I don’t know whose jaw hit the ground more often; NukeGirls or mine.

They had people walking on the ceiling (yes, dancing too-cue Lionel Ritchie), 2, count ‘em, 2 human cannonballs, zebras, an elephant who could paint and a light show that made me think I was at a Pink Floyd concert. It. Was. Awesome. Check the link above to see more about the show, and check here to see if they’re coming near you; it is well worth it. Your kids will never forget it. I know my won’t.

That actually looks pretty awesome! I think I can say with all certainty that I have never seen that many elephants walking on their hind legs at once.
(NukeDad) I took that picture right before they all starting doing the Macarena.

My nephew went to see the circus!
He loved it!
My sister-in-law did say the cotton candy was waaaay over priced tho! LOL!
(NukeDad) Yeah, It’s like getting robbed anymore. 20 oz coke runs $3.50 here. Thank goodness we were in the box away from the trinket sellers!

I am from Arkansas so I don’t always consider being a redneck a bad thing. Of course if I think someone is a redneck then they are in bad shape.
Watching in a box is the only way to go. I have seen a few events in the Coca Cola box at a local arena due to a connection with a friend. I have no perks of my own. I read your monster truck post and you couldn’t be more right about the private bathroom. Our box was catered too. I love rubbing elbows with the privileged if only for a short while.
(NukeDad) Isn’t it fun? I like seeing how the other half lives! And don’t worry, Otter; I’d take a redneck over a highfalutin’ snob anyday!

Clowns creep me out.
The last circus we attended was about ten years ago, when my father-in-law had another persona: “Jingles”, a clown with the Shriners Klown Korps. We went to their convention in Myrtle Beach where he was due to be crowned “Grand Poohbah”, and got the “privilege” of being backstage while he and all of his little friends were being dressed and made up for the performance by their show wives.
Seriously, it was like Showbiz Moms and Dads but in a circus. With adults.
Let me know if you get luxury box seats to AC/DC.
I’ll start driving south immediately.
(NukeDad) I’m not crazy about clowns either. Kinda like the kid in Poltergeist. I’m shootin’ for some concert tickets, believe me! I’ll let you know if we get any.

Wow, that looks really cool! I know my kids would love to see something like that. What a great thing for you and your family to be able to enjoy!
Sadly, the tour planners seemed to have forgotten about the Pacific Northwest entirely. Maybe they think we’re part of Canada still, eh? Anyway I’m not willing to drive to Sacramento for that. Fly to Anaheim, maybe… Disneyland’s there and all…
(NukeDad) That’s too bad, Tom. Maybe they’ll head your way after the summer swing is over.

It’s the flying La Winders.
(NukeDad) No high wire act this time-the magic took the place of it. Kept the show moving at a quicker pace.

Ah elephants, performing as Mother Nature intended …
Love the back-track on the Ansel Adams analogy too, very funny!
(NukeDad) Thanks, 1stTD! Yeah, the dancing elephants I could do without; the 12 tigers in a cage also. All it would take is for 1 of those tigers to go all “Seigfried and Roy” on the trainer to scar 100’s of kids for life. You could tell when they were looking at the trainer that all they saw was a giant walking T-bone steak with a whip.

I vaguely remember my grandparents taking me to the circus when I was little, I was probably 4ish. I probably enjoyed it, lol.
(NukeDad) Maybe you just watched Poltergeist and thought you went to the circus!
