Doggone if your posts about this don't make me actually think about what's going on. Your illustrations are spot on. The whole mess reminds me of Lucy and Ethel trying to eat the chocolates on the assembly line; they could never keep up with them. It's the same thing with this mess. They can throw money at it, and let the banks blow that wad too, and maybe do it a few more times, until it's all shot and we're left with zero. So in preparation for that stage of the game, I'm buying pitchforks, torches, and good sturdy boots.

Keep 'em coming.

(NukeDad) I hear you, Tom. May need to by one of those C Crane radios too.

Daddy was reading an article and told me about it, according to the article the loan insanity was made possible by the Clinton administration, I would not be at all surprised if it were true. From what I remember learning back in the day it is very common for the effects of one administration to not really be felt until the next one or two, and of course since people have short memories the current one gets blamed. At least they do if they are unpopular, such as is the case now.

Prevacid worked fine for me the couple times Doc prescribed it, prilosec seems to possibly work better (I didn't have them back to back and the dose is different), nexium was horrid, it didn't seem to do much besides triggering gastritis. Another fellow broken GI individual agreed nexium sucks so you might want to steer clear of the purple pill if your doc wants to play with the meds. Hope your issues get worked out!

(NukeDad) Your Dad is right; Clinton expanded what Carter had started with the "Community Reinvestment Act", and when Bush's Administration loosened some regulations the stage was set for disaster. Presidents usually get too much credit for good (Clinton with the Peace Dividend) and too much blame (Bush for the Housing Bubble Burst). The problem is they only suffer in textbooks with their legacy, but we suffer the economic consequences.

God I've read a lot of posts the last week about this bailout/rescue/handout and this is unbelievably the first to touch on what I was thinking myself.

How insane is it to give 700bn USD to people who have just LOST X hundred billion USD?

Like giving a gambler a grand and telling him to win his way back.

I don't know what's in those 500 odd pages, but I hope there's something that enforces changes on the practices these institutions have been using.

All I hear is that this is so banks can resume lending. Not in the same manner, I hope!

As an US 'outsider' this is fascinating to watch, but there are no outsiders in this, Ireland has officially become the first EU country to slip into recession, and the givernment has launched a 400bn euro guarantee of ALL deposits. Here in Holland the Fortis Bank has been nationalised, Fortis owns part of ABN Amro, where I have my mortgage.

The UK has nationalised banks, and brokered meregers between others and Iceland has had to nationalise banks.

So Mr Bush and Co...I've been patient so far, but lose me my house because of your
unwillingness to stand up to ridiculous business practices of powerful financial institutions and you better be prepared to invade here, because I'll kick your ass.

(NukeDad) Believe it or not, Bush DID try and stop it, about 18 times-Barney Frank, Chris Dodd and all the others in Congress that were on the take wouldn't pass the legislation. You're correct also in saying that the effects will be felt outside the borders of the US. It wasn't just Wall St. that was cashing in on all of this, markets world wide had their hands in the cookie jar. Not one of them will have the testicular fortitude to stand up and take some of the blame either.

AMEN and AMEN!!! You put it very well, NukeDad - and I second the nomination for president. What a breath of fresh air that would be!
Oh....I forgot ....can't have "fresh" air - not compatible with all the "hot air" that's already in Washington.
I am disgusted (yet again) that the ONLY one who pay consequences when things blow up (hello? where have they been?) is US. Here's hoping that enough other people are also disgusted enough to retire everyone up for election.

(NukeDad) The cowards quit answering their phones and told people not to e-mail because their e-mail system is so "fragile". Why didn't they just ask for another BILLION dollars for a new communications network?

All I can comment is NukeDad For President! I am not going to hold my breath waiting for the toaster. Besides, what good is a toaster if I don't have any bread to put in it.
And what a good thing that O.J. finally got what was coming.

(NukeDad) Yeah, no one eats toast anymore anyway. OJ will be making big rocks into little rocks until the day he dies.

You most definitely need to take a break from the insanity, especially since the politicians don't listen to us. Not much we can do about it until the election anyway. I'm afraid that this country is going to have to experience a catastrophic failure in the economy in order to be able to fix what is wrong with it, postponing it is only delaying the inevitable. I try not to think about it too much personally, I have enough stress in my life and it is negatively effecting my health. I've already made my decision, well that might not be the best way of putting it, I will NEVER vote for a Chicago democrat (thank all that is holy I was registered in DuPage county and not Cook otherwise I am sure "I" would vote democrat at least once in the coming election) and that really only leaves one option (well besides writing you in).

I was asking a woman here about voting, trying to get advice about absentee voting v registering here (more paperwork and logistics than which would be a better choice), when it became apparent that I don't like politicians from one of the most corrupt cities in the country and was leaning away from voting in my home state that was dumb enough to elect him in the first place and the last poll I saw had him significantly ahead she suggested I vote for one of the 5000 independents that will appear on the Iowa ballot (apparently it is very easy to get on the ballot here, no idea what the point of running in one not so large state is...). I referred to that as wasting my vote, which she grudgingly conceded the point to me, I don't think she expected me to be quite as informed as I was.

Thursday I lost one more tie to Illinois and turned in my registration form for Iowa. In a few weeks I'll have two stickers, one informing people that I got the flu vaccine and one that I voted. I totally advocate the flu vaccine (I'm the microblogologist and I approve this message). Love the giraffe line, having GERD that one totally amused me, the proton pump inhibitor is one script I definitely don't let run out, though Doc switched me over to 40mg/day prilosec last year. Though nothing keeps the bad taste out of ones mouth during an election season! OK I'll shut up now, pretty bad when the comment is longer than the post...

(NukeDad) Small world. I got my flu shot yesterday also. And the Doc refilled my Prevacid for me as well.
