Now, this we can totally relate to. I once gave up my soap opera for Lent, and it was like being released from a prison; not feeling the obligation of having to watch it (taped), no matter how late at night it got before I had the chance. I love the DVR, but it's easy to become a slave to it. Thanks for the laughs!

(NukeDad) Slavery isn't a bad analogy. Come back for more laughs!

Same experience (give or take) at this house. With the exception of the various reality shows I watch which, thank goodness, seem to have "seasons" of their own and don't always show at once (Project Runway, Dancing with the Stars, Celebrity Fit Club...), I have only a couple of WON'T miss shows: "The Office", "30 Rock", and--when it's on--"The Amazing Race".

And I'm addicted to the Today Show, but I don't DVR that one.

*I think, if I understand it correctly, DVRs work a little differently than TiVo. Doesn't TiVo start to figure out what shows and movies you WOULD like according to what you set it to record? (creepy, Big Brother-ish) My DVR only records what I tell it to. And sometimes it doesn't even do that.

(NukeDad) I think they are the same thing. TiVo can suggest things for you, but if you smack it on top it'll mind it's manners. Mine rarely talks back now.

Gotta say I still love me some TIVo, but then again, I don't seem to have as many shows as you on my list. Aside from Lost, Countdown with Keith Olbermann and Battlestar Galactica it's pretty much obligation free. My main reason for having it is that I hate to have to watch something when it's on and I hate commercials.

(NukeDad) Good point, and that is exactly why I use it/like it now. Problem was thinking "This works great! Let's do it for every show!"

Ok, I have three too. The Office (like you), Ghost Hunters (probably I am the only one), and South Park (although taping this conflicts with all my wife's shows so I rarely see it. Now, when Venture Brothers airs new episodes in June that will be the #1 show in my DVR. Funniest show on TV bar none--imo.

(NukeDad) You just made me remember one: "The Junk Brothers"; two brothers pick up stuff left on peoples sidewalks, make them into something else, and take it back to them. They turned an old stove into an outdoor BBQ, and an old TV/Stereo console from 1972 into a wet bar. They Rock.

Wow, I am so 1980's about this. We have one blank VHS, and a VCR. It has a limit. You can't record more shows until the first ones are watched.

Saves time, and money. I about cried when I saw how much it costs to buy TIVO, then I realized I had to pay for monthly service too? Screw that. I'm a tightwad.

(NukeDad0 That's a great idea; wish you had told me sooner! I have about a bazillion VHS tapes that were never labeled. Now we get to go through and see what's on them. Fun.

Oh my gosh, I totally haven't bought into the DVR/TiVo thing yet and after this, I'm quite doubtful that I will. I would hate to dream about Calista Flockhart and Rob Lowe as yellow toothed meth heads in love... I'd be scared for life.

Though I do love me some Brothers and Sisters and Intervention.

Those are two of your refuse to miss shows, right?? lol

(NukeDad) Close; but no. I think Calista already looks like a meth addict-what does she weigh, like 42 lbs?
